Band Score - 7.0
Sample Answer -

The bar chart shows the changes in weekly spending by Britons on three types of fast food, whilethe line graph presents the fast-food consumption during a period of 20 years, between 1970 and 1990.

From the bar graph, it is clear that the expenditure on fast food by high-income groups is the highestfor hamburgers and pizzas with nearly 43 pence per person per week and 20 pence per person per week respectively. On the contrary, the spending drastically declinesto a mere 13 pence and 07 pence per week for the above two categories for low-income groups.

However, both the high and low-income groups show a similar spending of nearly 17 pence per person per week for fish and chips. On the other side, average income groups indulge in moderate expenditure for hamburgers and pizzas with 33 and 12 pence per person per week for the two. Although at the same time, they contribute the highest spendingon fish and chips with 25 pence per person per week.

The line graph illustrates, the consumption of fast food from 1970-1990. Wherein, hamburgers and Fish & Chips increased steadily to about 300 grammes during this period, a slight decrease was observed for pizzas from 300 grammes to closely 200 grammes between the same times. After the late 1980s, Fish & Chips increased dramatically over 500 grammes. At the end of the year in the graph, hamburger and Fish & Chips rose notably, while pizza continued to rise slightly around 200 grammes.

Thus to conclude, it can be observed that while all the three income groups showed an all time high spending for the intake of three different fast-foods. Moreover, over the period of two decades it is evident that, both hamburgers and Fish & Chips showed an increasing trend while pizza followed a slight decline.

Sample 07 - IELTS task 1 - Collection of up-to-the-minute information on weather by Australian Bureau of Meteorology

The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable forecasts. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

Word count: 196 - Band Score - 7.0
Sample Answer -

The given diagram describes the different stages through which the Australian Bureau of Meteorology gathers up-to-the-minute weather information in order to generate accurate forecasts.

In the first phase, the meteorology department collects information through three different sources namely satellites, radars and drifting buoys. The information thus received is in the form of satellite photos, radar screens or synoptic charts. Moreover,it can be noticed that wherein satellites can transmit this data through any of the three mediums, radars can only send signals directly or through drifting buoys.

Once the raw information is fed, it is then sent to the analysis and forecasting phase where the data is transformed into reliable weather predictions. In the next stage, the output from the analysis and forecast stage is then fed into a central system, where it is prepared for broadcasting. Finally, the weather forecast is transmitted by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology through varied transmission channels namely - televisions, radios and recorded announcements.

Thus to conclude, it is evident that generating precise meteorological forecasts is a four stage process which involves reception of the incoming information through three sources and converting it into up-to-the-minute weather predictions required for broadcasting.

The charts below show the results of a survey of adult education. The first chart shows the reasons why adults decide to study. The pie chart shows how people think the cost of adult education should be shared.

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

Word Count: 240
Band: 7.0

The given charts represent the results of an adult education survey. They illustrate the various reasons why adults undertake studies and how they feel the cost of this education should be shared.

From the bar graph, it is evident that the highest number of adults that decide to take up education is 40%, which is due to an interest in the subject. It is closely followed by those who pursue their education to gain qualifications and contributes to 38% of the total adult population. Moreover, the percentage of adults who decide to study to help their current job, improve their promotion prospects or because they enjoy studying is almost similar with 22%, 20% and 20% respectively. However, only 09% of the total adults decide to study in order to meet people, which is the lowest, while 12% undertake studies to be able to change jobs.

The pie chart depicts how the cost of each course should be shared. Wherein a majority of 40% people think that the cost should be shared by the individuals, only 25 % of them believe that taxpayers should bear the cost of the courses. In addition to it, 35% of the total people feel that employers should pay the cost of adult education.

Thus to conclude, it is observed that the largest percentage of people take up adult education due to an interest in the subject and are of the opinion that individuals should share the education costs. On the contrary, the least percentage of adults pursue education in order to meet new people.
